CHARD TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB
YEOVIL & PETTERS TO VISIT CHARD ON WEDNESDAY

A general meeting of the committee of the Chard Town Football Club was held at the headquarters, the Crown Hotel on Tuesday evening April 5th 1921.

Major D.H. Nicholls (Chairman) presided, and there were also present Messrs A.P. Indge (President), E.A. Dening (Hon Treasurer), E.H. Thackeray (joint Hon’ Sec), J.Brown, W.G. Sanders, A.W. Sanders, T. Kesby, F. Kerle, F. Miller, B.Hodge, E.Hancock, J.F. Madge, H. Beviss, F.H. Wheaton and F.W. Pardy.

Reports from the finance, competition, ground and selection sub-committees were received and dealt with, and they will be fully reported upon at the public meeting at the Town Hall tonight (Friday).
It was with regret that it was learned that the Rev Preb, H.J. Green (Vicar of Chard) and Mr. R.H. Blood had, through unavoidable circumstances resigned from the committee, and it was decided to submit the names of Mr. A.F. Pearce and Mr. H.W. Larcombe to fill the vacancies. Another vacancy had occurred through Major Nicholls being elected chairman, and the name of Mr. Alec Chaffey was recommended in his place.

Very encouraging reports were received of generous support for the club, and it was hoped for a full attendance this evening at the public meeting, when the recommendations of the committee will be put forward for approval.

The following team was chosen to meet Yeovil & Petters Western League eleven (their professional team) in an exhibition match at Chard on Wednesday 13th April 1921, in aid of the Town Football Club
W. Spurdle, E. Hitch and S. Hawkins; H.Braund, F.Turner and A.Follet (Capt); L. Brewer, F. Manning, T. Phipps, G Taylor and S. Hounsell.
Mr Willshire (saddler, etc) of Fore Street, kindly presented the club with a ball for this match, which is sure to be an enormous attraction. The gate money will be in aid of the Town Club, and Chard people and those from the surrounding district should see to it that such a crowd has never yet graced a football field in or near the good old borough. The need of a club representing the whole of Chard has long been felt, and now that one has been started on a good basis it should receive the whole-hearted support of every inhabitant of the town and parish.
